Additionally, SARS-CoV-2 can affect the central and peripheral nervous systems, potentially causing a process called central sensitization, where the nervous system becomes hyperactive and overreacts to normal stimuli, sending constant pain signals to the brain. Immune system dysregulation is also a factor, as lingering immune responses can maintain inflammation and prolong pain.
